چکیده

Results of the measurement of indoor radon and thoron carried out in and around Srirampura, Bangalore, India using passive detector technique is presented. Measurements were carried out using twin cup radon-thoron dosimeter using small strips of 12 micron thick LR-115 Type II nuclear track detectors. Measurements were carried out in 60 dwellings for a period of one year on a quarterly time integrated quarterly cycle to see the seasonal variation. After the exposure period, the detectors were chemically analyzed using 2.5 N NaOH at 60 C for a time of 90 minutes and the etched detectors were scanned by spark counter techniques. The estimated Rn and Rn levels in the studied locations showed the higher concentrations during winter season, in bath rooms, in concrete walls and in granite flooring houses. In this paper the author have made an attempt for the measurement of concentrations of indoor radon along with its distribution pattern based on construction material.

Sensitivity to Thoron on Passive Radon Detectors

INTRODUCTION Although a lot of studies on radon have been done for a long time, there are few reports on thoron. It was considered that the presence of thoron could be negligible because of its own quantity compared to that of radon. However, recent studies have shown high thoron levels in our living environment (1-4). In particular, high thoron concentrations were occasionally observed in some...

Measurements of indoor radon, thoron and their progeny in Farrukhabad city of Uttar Pradesh, India

Background: More than 50% of the total dose received by human beings from all sources of radiation (both from natural and manmade) comes from radon and its progeny which is responsible for lung cancer in many cases. Materials and Methods: In the present study, the measurements have been carried out by using twin chamber dosimeter cups with LR-115 type-II detectors. The value of track ...
